Christmas and New Year Bin Collection Changes

Rubbish and recycling collections will continue over Christmas and New Year but bin-emptying days will change.

Garden waste will not be collected between December 29 and January 9.

The council’s waste collection teams have worked hard to maintain normal services during the pandemic and, although crew sizes were changed to meet social distancing guidelines, they have collected 20% more waste than pre-pandemic levels.

New ways of working have been introduced to prioritise safety, including providing gloves, hand sanitiser, wipes and masks as well as keeping crews in “bubbles” to minimise contact with colleagues.

The table below shows the changes to collection days over Christmas and New Year.

I second Mr Gilbertson’s comment. Well done the bin men and ladies. Have a happy Christmas and hopefully a better year to come in 2021.

The bin people do a splendid job, particularly this year, thank you very much. Enjoy a well-earned rest over Christmas.
