Closure of A3 Northbound on Saturday Night For Bridge Repairs

The Highways Agency has announced the northbound A3 at Guildford will be closed for bridge maintenance overnight this Saturday (September 28).

Highways AgencyIt says that repairs to the bridge parapet [close to the ‘cathedral and university’ southbound exit of the A3] will ensure that journeys remain safe and reliable on the structure that carries the dual carriageway over the Ascot to Guildford railway line.

Steve Cobb, Highways Agency structures manager said: “Earlier this year we completed the re-waterproofing of the structure and are now able to carry out repairs to the bridge parapet. The different elements of the work require different equipment and teams and the limited amount of space on the bridge meant that we could not combine the work.

“We have however planned the work carefully, to minimise disruption and will undertake the repairs overnight, when we know traffic flows are lowest. I would advise anyone wishing to use the northbound A3 to plan their journey in advance and allow extra time.”

The work will be carried out between 10pm and 8am.

The northbound A3 will be closed between the University of Surrey (Egerton Road) and Stoke (A320) interchanges.

Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion route via The Chase, Madrid Road, Guildford Park Road, A322 and the A25.

Further overnight closures are planned to take place in mid October for resurfacing between the Woodbridge (A322) and Burpham (A3100) interchanges. These closures will be publicised in advance.

And I have been reliably informed that they won’t be shinning 4000 watts of flood lights into people’s bedroom windows this time, unlike the previous four times they have been working at night through Guildford.
