Coffee and Culture Festival Will be a Perfect Blend

Coffee lovers who also enjoy a dash of culture won’t want to miss a festival that combines both, taking place in Guildford on Sunday, June 7.

The Guildford Coffee & Culture Festival is at the New House Art Space, Fays Passage, off Bedford Road.

It features independent coffee roasters, artisan makers, and local community projects, alongside a programme of ticketed workshops.

Cultural pop-ups will include dance and rhythm throughout the day, closing with an evening session that’s a 4,000-year-old traditional Chinese medicine practice called qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”).

Sometimes the best ideas don’t start in a boardroom, but on a sunny patch of pavement. For Margarita Madrid, the curator of the festival, that moment happened last summer outside The Boileroom – Guildford’s live music and cultural arts venue.

Margarita says: “A chance encounter with Dominique Frazer, founder of both The Boileroom and New House Art Space, turned to the subject of the Guildford Coffee Club, an initiative from 2023 that had been paused.

“When Dominique mentioned she’d love to see someone get it rolling again, the answer was immediate: ‘That’s me’.”

While coffee has always been a passion for Margarita, she adds: “Last summer finally provided the right moment and the headspace to return to something purely for the joy of it.”

She began running the revised Guildford Coffee Club last August at New House Arts Space, bringing together coffee lovers of all levels to “brew, bond, and belong”.

Margarita says: “Whether people come to master a new technique, discover a regional roast, or simply find a warm and curious space to connect, the club has become a quietly beloved fixture.”

This festival is a true collaboration with the team at New House Art Space, and Margarita is clear that without them, none of this would have been possible.

Dominique Frazer’s vision for New House as a creative community hub, and the hands-on dedication of its outreach and engagement co-ordinator Charlie Cluff, have been essential to bringing the festival to life.

“I genuinely couldn’t have done this without the New House team,” says Margarita. “Dominique and Charlie have given this festival a home — and not just a venue. New House is a place where independent spirit and community genuinely meet, and that’s exactly what this festival is about.”

The festival runs from 9.30am to 7.30pm, and entry is free. Workshops are £10 each, and pre-booking in advance is essential. Click here to book.
