Dozens of local community groups, charities and social enterprises have a brighter future, thanks to more than £130,000 of grant funding from Guildford Borough Council.
Forty local groups will receive a share of £132,360 after the council’s Executive agreed the decision of the Community Grants Panel.
Cllr Sarah Creedy, lead councillor for housing and social welfare, said: “This year we changed the focus of our community grants scheme. All the successful applicants run projects that really help improve and support the local community in delivering the council’s own corporate aims.”
Arts, sport, play and community projects all benefit from community grant support. Disability Challengers, Guildford YMCA, Barn Youth Project and Furniture Link Guildford were among the eight recipients of larger grants (over £5,000).
Smaller grants have been awarded to 32 organisations including Guildford Community Mediation Service, Artventure Trust (community mural at the Electric Theatre) and Ripley Bowling Club (a ramp for disabled access).
