Conservative candidate, Angela Richardson, has now confirmed that she will be attending the Youth Strike 4 Climate hustings. Breakdowns in communications resulted in her not receiving the invitation.

The “Clustings”, as the event is being called, is to be held this Friday, November 29 at Holy Trinity Church in the High Street.

The Youth Striker 4 Climate (YS4C) organisers had told The Dragon last week of their disappointment that Ms Richardson had not responded to their invitation after the other four parliamentary candidates had accepted.

YS4C had sent the invitations out on November 9, by email to those candidates for whom they had an address and if they didn’t, by Facebook Messenger.

But her campaign manager, Laurie Loe, said that Ms Richardson had not seen the message on Facebook as: “whoever sent the message is not connected or Friends with Angela on Facebook.”

Continuing the unfortunate circumstances, Ms Richardson also missed an email from The Dragon on November 22 seeking to confirm her intention to decline YS4C’s invitation. The email had ended up in her junk mail.

Last night (November 24) Ms Richardson thanked The Dragon. Our story: Conservative Candidate to be ‘Empty Chaired’ At Youth Climate ‘Clustings’ Debate and a Tweet from Extinction Rebellion, Guildford had alerted her to the miscommunication and she confirmed today that she would be “delighted to attend”.

This evening she added: “The environment is hugely important to all of us and our future. Any invitation to discuss this urgent matter will always be accepted. Unfortunately, this invitation wasn’t received, however as soon as I found about it I wanted to take part.

“I would urge anyone wanting to invite me to events or discuss policy during the election to contact info@guildfordconservatives.com or through my Political Facebook page @Angela4Guildford.”
