The Guildford Liberal Democrats have refused to name the person who sent out a controversial Tweet comparing Guildford’s MP with President Putin of Russia.
But they have confirmed that it was neither the prospective parliamentary candidate (PPC), Zöe Franklin, nor any sitting councillor.
A Guildford Liberal Democrat spokesperson said: “The Guildford Lib Dem Twitter account is run by a team of volunteers, none of whom are sitting councillors nor our PPC.
“We regret the inappropriate tweet, removed it swiftly and have publicly apologised. We are organising further social media training for all the team to ensure this does not happen again.”

I have read the articles and comments on this subject.
It is clear that the Liberal Democrats need help to get their social media working properly.
Will the Guildford Liberal Democrats confirm that this tweet was not sent out by a volunteer on behalf of, suggested by or on the instruction of the parliamentary candidate, officer or past or present councillor?
It is always so easy to blame an unnamed volunteer.

It is interesting that the Liberal Democrats have refused to name the person who sent out the tweet. It would appear they only stand for openness and transparency when it suits them. Every person has a right to free speech but should be willing to own any comment made. By protecting this coward the Liberal Democrats have shown their true colours.
