County Council’s Highways Bulletin: September 5-11

Published on: 3 Sep, 2022
Updated on: 5 Sep, 2022

For many years it has been a frustration that we have not been able to bring you more news of local roadworks.

We realise that they are of importance; it could be that they delay your journeys and you need to plan alternative routes or you might be affected by supply interruptions of water, electricity or gas, or it could simply be that you have a natural inquisitiveness to know what is going on.

The list below, published by Surrey County Council and kindly provided by County Cllr Fiona Davidson and available on the SCC website, lists concisely the current works planned or underway in the borough. If you have any questions please direct them to the county council.

We would like to report on roadworks in more detail, especially on those of greater importance or causing major disruption but unfortunately our resources do not allow us to do that. If you would be interested in being our roadworks correspondent please write to the editor, Martin Giles at: mgilesdragon@gmail.com.

This is a common SCC Highways problem; my road and other nearby roads are on this week’s list but did we receive any notification, a “flyer?” No!

By enquiring with, or should I say pestering, SCC Highways I’ve found that only properties located immediately next to the proposed roadworks’ sites are notified. It would seem that the print run is limited to a maximum of 100, enough for one person to post through letterboxes.

The rest of us can drive up to the roadworks sites and then have to, all too often, turn around to find another way. Signed diversions don’t always help. In two recent cases locally, drivers have been using unsuitable roads and SCC Highways have then had to put up temporary “unsuitable for diverted traffic” signs.
