Did You See The Hockey Stick Assault At Wickes?

Wickes Store, Guildford. The assault is believed to have occurred where the car is parked.

A man was seriously assaulted with a hockey stick in the car park near the entrance to Wickes store in Woodbridge Road, Guildford sometime between 10am and 10.15am  yesterday morning (Monday, 26 November).

As a result of the altercation the fifty-year-old victim suffered a large head wound and was taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

The suspect struck the victim over the head, knocked him to the ground where he continued to strike him. The assailant then made off from the scene of the attack in a silver or grey 4×4 vehicle.

Detective Constable Dave Pellatt investigating said: “This was a vicious attack on a man who was using the on site fast food facility [a burger van] when he was set upon by another man in broad daylight. The unprovoked incident took place in an area which is accessible to any customers and was extremely aggressive.

“I am hoping there may be witnesses who have not yet come forward and who may have seen what happened. If you have any information which could help with this investigation I would ask customers or passers-by to call me immediately. Surrey Police will not tolerate this type of violence in the community and will do everything possible to ensure the offender is brought to justice. ”

A member of staff at Wickes said that although some staff had witnessed the incident none had been injured or involved.

A 36-year-old man is currently on bail in relation to this incident and is due to report back on 21 January 2012.
