A man has been given a suspended prison sentence and disqualified from driving after causing a serious collision in Guildford.

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, Surrey police were called to the scene of a collision on Worplesdon Road. When they watched footage of the incident, they saw the driver of a grey Mazda overtaking an HGV at speed when approaching a traffic island.

Rather than move back into the correct lane after this dangerous manoeuvre, the driver then continued in the offside lane, where he collided head-on with a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained serious injuries.

Kai Chun Chan, aged 44, from Woking, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was given a 22-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
