Graffiti under Walnut Bridge.

From Roland Dunster

In response to: We Should Not Accept Traffic Offence Penalties As a Way To Raise Council Revenue

One source of revenue I would be delighted if all local and national authorities, including GBC, would fully exploit, is the active, regular and overt fining of those who litter, draw graffiti and fly-tip.

With the assistance of an authority support provider if need be, these socially, environmentally and financially corrosive crimes would finally be tackled seriously, all whilst raising invaluable funds.

Simply by opening one’s eyes, stepping outside and walking, cycling or driving in any direction within the borough serves to graphically illustrate how the current vicious cycle of consequence-free littering, drawing of graffiti or fly-tipping; limited clearing and cleaning; then more consequence-free offending, is demonstrably failing.

I, and the many others, who are sufficiently dismayed to see our once beautiful borough be ruined by these crimes and voluntarily clear and clean, and who face verbal abuse and physical threats when challenging the perpetrators, would be eternally grateful.

I wholeheartedly agree. There is absolutely nothing “artistic” about this “tagging” it is simple vandalism.

The desire of the perpetrators to leave their mark is no better than dogs urinating against lampposts in an effort to mark their territory.
