Surrey Police is appealing for witnesses after thieves stole a large quantity of cigarettes from a Guildford store in the early hours yesterday (June 17).

logo-surrey-police-darkBGThree men, wearing hooded tops, smashed the window of the Sainsbury’s supermarket in Worplesdon Road around 2.35am and made an untidy search of the cigarette counter before making off with their haul. The trio made their escape in the direction of the A3 in a dark-coloured saloon vehicle described as having a loud exhaust.

Officers responded to the incident after the store alarm was activated.

Detective Constable Dave Pellatt, who is investigating the incident, said: “We have spoken to a number of witnesses but we are appealing to anyone with any other information, or anyone who has been offered cheap cigarettes for sale, to come forward straightaway. We are following up a number of lines of enquiry and our investigation remains ongoing.”

If you can help, please call Surrey Police on 101, quoting crime reference number 45140049732 or, if you prefer not to leave your name, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
