A hospice exists in order to help terminally ill patients and their families make the most of their lives.
The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, along with the Beacon Centre in Guildford, has been caring for people since it was founded over 35 years ago. Nowadays, a lot of that care can take place in the patient’s home.
Brian Graham came along to talk to Fairlands WI about the work of the hospice, for which he is an ambassador.
£20,000 needs to be raised each day to help it to continue its good work.
Go on to its website to find out how you can help and to learn more about this amazing institution.
Fairlands WI is planning an outing to Smithbrook Kilns and Cranleigh in June. Transport will be by car and the volunteer drivers will take non-driving passengers with them. Another WI activity will involve running the tea and coffee stall at the Fairlands Community Royal Picnic on Sunday, June 12.
At the next meeting on Wednesday, May 11 members will be voting on two resolutions to go forward to the final vote at the WI’s annual meeting in Brighton. One resolution is about appropriate care for people with dementia in hospital and the other concerns avoiding food waste and addressing food poverty.
On June 8 the speaker will be Dr Judith Hill, who will describe Victorian life – upstairs and downstairs.
Fairlands WI meets on the second Wednesday of each month at Fairlands Community Centre, starting at 8pm. Visitors to meetings pay a nominal sum of £2. If you are interested in finding out more about us, call Jenny Page, president, on 01483 538426 or Angela Linington, secretary, on 01483 233967.
