Surrey Police have said that their enquiries into the slaughter of a 21-month-old steer near Stoke Lock at Riverside Park are ongoing and they are warning the public not to buy any unpackaged meat.
They are also urging anyone with information to contact them.

The full police statement reads: “The remains of the 14-month-old cow were left on a footpath and found by a member of the public. The cow appears to have been taken from a nearby farm.
“We appreciate that this discovery will cause distress and concern within the local community, and we would like to reassure you that an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the cow’s death and identify those responsible.
“These enquiries remain ongoing. We are not aware of any more reports of this nature at this time.
“Due to treatment the cow had recently had, it is not fit for human consumption, and we would strongly urge you . We would also urge you to contact us straightaway if you have any information which could help quoting ref PR/45250059342 via:
“If you do not wish to speak to police, you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Surely there should be some sort of reply to that police advice from proper butchers, whose entire stock is generally on display unpackaged.
