Emergency services rushed to a Guildford flat this afternoon after a fierce fire broke out.
At around 2:15pm, five fire tenders, as well as police and ambulance crews, arrived at the scene, where all residents were evacuated as a safety measure.
The fire primarily affected one flat in Bedford House, Onslow Street, the occupant of which was safely extracted. The man was taken to the hospital for precautionary checks but is reported to be in stable condition.
In a video taken by a resident in a nearby flat flames can be seen emerging from a window on the side nearest Onslow Street.
The incident brought significant disruption to the area, with road closures and emergency vehicles stationed along the street. By late afternoon, the fire was under control, with three fire pumps and an aerial ladder remaining on-site to manage any remaining risks.
Police and ambulance services were also on hand to support residents and ensure the safety of those involved.
Surrey Fire & Rescue Service has since issued the following statement: “At approximately 14:15 today, our crews were alerted to a fire at a block of flats on Onslow Street, Guildford. The fire is now out, and three pumps and an aerial ladder remain on site.
“The police and ambulance service have also been in attendance. The road is now fully re-open.”
Thanks to a speedy response from the emergency services, the fire was quickly contained.A report that the fire strated in the kitchen of the flat has not been confirmed.
Second incident this week for Bedford House residents
This has been a particularly tough week for residents of the estate, as earlier in the week a man sadly lost his life after falling from a window. The community is still reeling from the tragic event, and this fire has added further stress to an already challenging time.
