Flood Alert Issued For Lower River Wey

This evening (Wednesday, February 5) the Environment Agency issued a flood alert for the ‘lower’ River Wey including Guildford, Old Woking, Byfleet, and Weybridge, and the East Clandon Stream at Send.

Flood warningThe alert stated: “River levels on the Lower River Wey are now rising again following the recent heavy rain. As a result, the river may again begin to flood low lying land and roads. The Environment Agency will continue to monitor the situation and update this message as it changes. The weather prospects are: showers are expected this evening but they will clear away leaving a generally dry night. More showers are expected tomorrow with a band of persistent and heavy rain expected to arrive late on Thursday and persist through Friday.”

People are warned not to go near fast flowing water.
