A second spate of flooding occurred in Guildford over the last 48 hours but was less severe or damaging than the floods of Christmas.
According to the Environment Agency website the peak of the new year flooding occurred at midnight on January 2 and by midday today (January 3) the flood level was more than a metre lower than its peak at Christmas marked on the brick wall of the Britannia pub in Millmead.
A senior council officer said that he had received only one report of newly affected properties in the last two days.
But with more rain forecast falling on to completely saturated ground these watery scenes might be the norm over the next week. This evening though the water level, last measured at 5.45pm at 2.7 metres is steadily falling back to the upper-limit of its typical range, 2.45 metres.

This photo shows clearly the difference in depth of the new year flooding compared with the Christmas flooding that entered the pub.

Strong currents even in shallow water. Not surprising, perhaps, that the Environment Agency advise no one to enter flood water more than six inches deep.
