The Londis shop, Bedford Road, Google Maps

A black Electric S10 e-scooter, bought the day before, was stolen by a gang of five men at knifepoint on March 4, outside the Londis store on Bedford Road.

The 18-year-old victim was at the shop with his girlfriend and a male friend, with the scooter propped on its stand outside, when five men approached. One demanded the scooter and another produced a knife. The scooter was then picked up and the gang ran with it toward Onslow Street.

The scooter owner and his friend managed to catch up with the men outside Casino on Onslow Street. But the victim’s friend was kicked in the face, leaving him in shock but fortunately without serious injury.

In a police appeal for witnesses or information, DC Anthony Gravener, who is investigating, said: “If you can help us understand more about what happened, or help us identify any of the men, we want to hear from you.

“The victim had taken delivery of the e-scooter only the day before, and it was his first day riding it. I’d like to find the people who took it for his sake, but also to gain some justice for his friend who was violently attacked during the robbery.”

The Dragon has asked police for any description they may have of the suspected men.

An interesting conundrum for police, as using an electric scooter on the public highway is illegal.
