Guildford By-election – Read What the Candidates Have to Say

Guildford South East Surrey County Council By-election candidates

Voters in the county council division of Guildford South East will have their chance to select the next county councillor to represent them.

No doubt the by-election results will be scrutinised to see what they might tell us about the national standing of the main political parties and how “independent” or residents’ party candidates, in this case John Redpath of R4GV, fare in local elections.

And this by-election could crucially affect the balance of power at Surrey County Council and decide if the council becomes one of “no overall control” albeit it with the Conservatives remaining the largest party.

Some positions on current local issues, such as planning control, the awaited local government reorganisation and river pollution, might also sway some voters.

The Dragon sent a set of questions to all six candidates. Please read, via the following links, what they had to say:

John Redpath for Residents for Guildford and Villages

Richard Eggleton for Labour

Dale Layman for Reform UK

Alex Fiuza for the Conservatives

Claire Whitehouse for Greens

Catherine Houston for the Lib Dems
