Guildford Choral Society Sings Missa Solemnis At GLive

The Guildford Choral Society sings the magnificent Beethoven Missa Solemnis this Saturday, March 18 at 7.30pm at GLive.

Joining forces with the internationally acclaimed Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and with soprano, Claire Seaton, the concert will present what Beethoven considered as his ‘true masterpiece’.

Conducted by Jonathan Willcocks, the piece was first heard nearly in St Petersburg in 1824.

Beethoven’s profound deafness prevented him from hearing the badly prepared concert. It was performed from a barely finished score with reportedly, the singers taking advantage of Beethoven’s inability to hear by leaving out the bits they couldn’t read or found too hard.

The soloists for Saturday’s beautifully rehearsed concert are Claire Seaton (soprano), Diana Moore (contralto), Thomas Hobbs (tenor) and Timothy Nelson (bass).

The impressive chorus, orchestra and soloist ensemble is being joined by friends from the Brussels Choral Society.

On April 29, the choir will take this performance to Brussels to sing it with Brussels Choral in the wonderful Palais des Beaux Arts.

Tickets for Missa Solemnis can be bought on-line from the GLive website, or call 01483 369350, or via the Guildford Choral Society website.
