The Guildford Institute has launched its autumn brochure and as ever it has a jam-packed programme with more than 70 courses, talks, events and visits on offer.

To mark the variety of cultural and religious events that take place around the globe each autumn, this term the Guildford Institute is set to celebrate festivals around the world. A number of its activities will take inspiration from this theme.

Get creative with a festival of colour painting workshop, explore the links between The Day of the Dead, Halloween and English folk traditions or discover the art of celebration.

It will also host its own festivities to mark 130 years of being in its Ward Street home with a Guildford Question Time-style event.

On the panel to answer questions on local history will be experts Matthew Alexander, David Rose and David Calow, with The Guildford Dragon NEWS’ editor Martin Giles as question master.

Leading up to Christmas, there will be a number of exciting events including a visit to see the impressive illuminations at Waddesdon Manor, a festive wine tasting workshop and a Christmas wreath-making workshop (morning and afternoon sessions available).

This term’s brochure cover, Colourful Leaves, is by graphic designer and printmaker Alice Charman. Based in Surrey, she creates abstract and botanical-inspired designs.

The manager of the Guildford Institute, an independent educational charity, Amy Rice, said: “We’re delighted to offer a programme with such a celebratory and positive feel, which I hope you’ll all agree is reflected in our brilliant brochure cover!

“This term, we are particularly excited to mark 130 years of being in our Ward Street home, which presents a great opportunity to reflect on our history and contribution to Guildford. With over 70 events on offer, both in person and online, there is something for everything to enjoy!”

The autumn term is from September 1 to December 8. Advance booking for all Institute activities is essential. To order a free copy of the Institute’s autumn brochure, call 01483 562142 or email info@guildford-institute.org.uk.
