Local MP Zöe Franklin joined Guildford residents on a day of community-led environmental and social action hosted by charity ZERO Carbon Guildford at the end of April.

The Liberal Democrat MP spent the day alongside volunteers who partook in a Water Quality Blitz, collecting and testing river samples to help monitor pollution in local waterways.

The testing also supports national efforts to protect, and raise awareness of, the environmental challenges surrounding water quality.

The MP’s attendance at the event follows her comments on last year’s Thames Water sewage dumping figures, which she called an “appalling increase” from the year before.

The local action day, on April 26, also featured a Community Baby Shower with sustainable baby clothing donations and the opportunity to learn about reducing waste through reuse, as well as an Explore and Restore cycle trail.

ZERO Carbon Guildford is a Surrey-based, community-focused charity for sustainability, climate action and social justice.
