Traditionally when you think about getting a kitchen, you have two options.
The first is to go to one of the large nationwide DIY chains, the second is to go to a smaller local independent kitchen showroom.
There are advantages and disadvantages of both. The big chains buy in bulk, so prices are competitive, but often quality is lacking and there is little flexibility.
The independents offer so much more, including flexibility and a wider choice, but will often be more expensive than the nationwide chains.
But in the last five years or so, another option has emerged, and Guildford seems to be grabbing it with both hands.
“Guildford is leading the way and has a highest proportion of online orders for quality kitchens than any other area,” said Alan Richards, the manager of Classic Kitchens Direct, the online bespoke kitchen retailer.
He added that the Guildford postcode makes up about 60% of all the kitchens they produce and send out.
His theory is that Guildford has a lot of high quality handmade and independent kitchen showrooms. In their experience people go and have a look, and love the products. They then get a quote and more often than not take a big gulp at the price.
Many then turn to Google to look for alternatives online – which is where they find CKD.
Alan explained that Classic Kitchens Direct are not a huge retailer. They produce around three to four kitchens a week and they do not have huge expensive showrooms. They also do not have expensive branding to pay for.
This means that their prices can stay as low as possible.
Instead they make handmade, bespoke painted kitchens at a fraction of the cost of some of the brand names available.
They have produced hundreds of kitchens over the years and a large proportion of them are in the Guildford area and many of their projects can be seen on their online gallery.
