All eight Guildford parliamentary candidates will share a platform when Guildford Baptist Church, on behalf of the churches in the borough, hosts a hustings meeting on Tuesday, April 21, at 7.30pm at their Millmead Centre in Bury Fields.

Hustings Notice feature

Guildford’s eight parliamentary candidates in the forthcoming general election.

Martin Giles of The Guildford Dragon NWS will be assisting in the running of the event, supporting those asking questions to the candidates and challenging the candidates if they appear not to be answering them directly!

The format will be similar to the leaders debate broadcast on television. Each candidate will make their opening remarks and main electioneering points, this will be followed by questions put by the audience to the panel followed, in turn by the candidates’ closing remarks.

The organiser, Bill Nelson, is the chairman of Seale and Sands Parish Council. He runs his own business in IT and recruitment, especially in central government, and has organised and chaired Guildford hustings meetings for the previous two general elections.

He said: “This will provide Guildford voters the opportunity to ask questions of all the local candidates, compare the answers and help them make up their minds who they wish to represent them at Westminster for the next five years.”

Excellent. Let’s see what they all say regarding growth for growth’s sake and the potential impact on the green belt.

We’ve had more than enough growth for the next three generations. It is now time to consolidate our gains, and look to the impact on those who will survive us.
