Guildford Junior League (Clausura) – Round 3

All eight teams participated in round 3 of the Guildford Junior League (Clausura).

However, the Overtakers only turned up with one player, Andrei Cherciu, in their match against the Thunderbolts on February 27. He did manage to win both his singles against Kyle and Anton Kepa to reduce the scoreline to just a 2-3 defeat.

In the all Merrow battle, the Demons raced to a 3-0 lead against the Hawks. Henry Evans won another brace – this time against Dominic Wright and Jack Hongjuan.

However, not to be deterred, the younger Hawks showed great tenacity to fight back and win the last two matches in the deciding game. Dominic won 8-11, 11-8, 13-11, 8-11, 11-8 against Tom Gartner and then teamed up with Jack to edge the doubles 11-5 in the fifth. Significantly, these two wins keep the Hawks at the top of the table, one point ahead of the Demons.

J² scored their second 5-0 win of the season against VTC and share second place with Merrow Demons. Joss Beedie and James Scott each won bith their matches 3-0 against Vlad Cretu and Claudia Vincent. They then combined to take the doubles 11-7 in the fourth.

The Top Spinners move into fourth place with a 5-0 win over Christ’s College but due to having a game in hand are still in a strong position. Vincent Quiambao and Owain Osmond-Gillam were impressive throughout, winning all their matches 3-0. Micah Hall came closest to taking an end but just missed out 11-6, 11-9 15-13 against Owain.

Match scores:

Top Spinners 5 – Christ’s College 0

VTC 0 – J² 5

Merrow Demons 3 – Merrow Hawks 2

The Thunderbolts 3 – The Overtakers 2
