“Streetworks” typically refers to the maintenance, installation and repairs of utility services located under or alongside the roads. These are usually completed by utility companies and include upgrades to crucial infrastructure such as gas pipes, water pipes, and electricity cables.
Surrey County Council oversees the streetworks process, which includes obtaining permits, agreeing reasonable works durations, and making sure that road surfacing is correctly reinstated following completed works.
The framework for the regulation and coordination of streetworks is outlined in the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991. This act aims to reduce the impact on the public whilst ensuring the safety and efficiency of road networks.
