Letter: Could Compton Follow Normandy’s Example?

The closed-up Harrow pub in Compton

From: Roshan Bailey

In response to: Proposal to Turn Village Pub into Residential Units Overwhelmingly Defeated

Like Compton, neighbouring village Normandy had also lost all its shops and pubs but the opening last summer of our Community Shop & Cafe has been transformative. It has quickly become a well loved and well used facility providing a focus for the community to meet our needs and to meet each other.

The Harrow site shares one key feature with Normandy’s shop and cafe – proximity to the Village Hall provides a constant stream of people socialising and shopping after their events.

I feel so sad now driving past The Harrow and would love to pop in when I pass if it could be revived as a similar community asset.
