Letter: Debenham’s Redevelopment Should Respect Town’s Heritage and Valley Setting

“St Mary’s Wharf” as it would look from Millmead car park.

In response to: Only A Minority Oppose North Street and Debenhams Developments Finds Survey

The Debenhams proposals are too high and too bulky in their massing.

The proposals will adversely affect the character of the town – blocking views across the town to its green horizons – and they do not respect Guildford’s valley setting.

The height of the proposals will also adversely affect the setting of Guildford’s heritage buildings – namely some 40 listed buildings close to, or adjacent to, the site.

I support redevelopment of this site but not when it will cause significant damage to the town’s heritage.
