From Anthony Mallard
In response to: What Will Be Done for Burpham Residents Now?
The decision of SCC’s Cabinet is now known. There are many lessons that can be learned, on both sides of the argument, that may improve planning for such schemes in the future.
However, the SCC Cabinet decision is not all bad news. The forthcoming development of the former Gosden Hill Farm site with 1,800+ dwellings and the concomitant increase in traffic offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to improve the local road infrastructure.
If done well, it may incorporate some or all of the safety advantages of the London Road scheme for all road users, reduce congestion and thus improve air quality. Will this challenge be grasped and especially, will the now divided community come together and work with all interested parties to achieve what may and could be a safer and more suitable solution than that offered by the London Road Active Travel Scheme.
I hope so but I’ll wait and see.
