Letter: What Will Be Done for Burpham Residents Now?

In response to: Only Cabinet Members Will Speak at SCC’s Meeting to Decide on London Road Scheme

As safety was the main reason for rejecting this scheme, I’d like to hear the cabinet discuss what they are going to do to make the current arrangements safe in the event of another rejection?

The road is not safe now. The pinch points for the proposed cycle and pedestrian paths are still constricted; the potholes on the pavement are more numerous than the ones in the road; and there are small ponds of standing water when it rains heavily, forcing even mums and prams into the carriageway.

Everyone is very focused on being against something on our main road. Can we now hear what they will do for Burpham residents in the absence of this refurbishment?

SCC should use the money that was there for the scheme to repair the potholes on the pavement and the road to make it safer for everyone. Simple.
