Letter: How will the Masterplan Encourage Modal Shift?

I would ask Sam Peters, who commented on my letter Modal Shift Is Wishful Thinking, Without Access the Town Will Die, what provision he sees in the town centre master plan that will shift 70 per cent of the residents in Guildford out of their cars and onto buses, bikes and shanks pony?

The vague proposal by ARUP consultants for a Sustainable Movement Corridor did not have a catchment area justification and it has received little serious planning, to work it needs a dedicated bus route and high population density. This is lacking.

Guildford is too hilly for easy bike rides and my proposal for widening the towpath from Ladymead to the town centre made before all the flats were built in Walnut Tree Close was ignored.

Many people are disabled or too far from the town centre to walk.
