Letter: I Admire Those Selflessly Working to Protect Us While Some Flout the Rules

From Anthony Mallard

In response to: We Need to Stay Strong, Work Together and Protect Each Other

I have nothing but admiration for the many agencies, volunteers and individuals who are working, beyond the bounds of normal reasonableness, and who are placing themselves and their families at risk to undertake their usual duties and much much more to ensure the prevention of the spread of Covid as well as providing care and treatment of those suffering from it.

They struggle against the ever-changing rules and guidance produced by an indecisive government, which cause confusion and which must add to the difficulty of enforcement.

Those who selfishly flout the rules or stretch the guidance to meet their “wants” are to be condemned.

We are all struggling in our own ways because of the limitations the disease has placed upon us. The only way to reduce the pandemic to manageable levels, it is unlikely ever to go away completely, is to follow the health and scientific advice.

I trust the wise words of Assistant Chief Constable Miller will be reflected upon and heeded.

As usual, our “King Solomon” of Burpham has placed the right words in the right order to make it very clear.
