Letter: I Did Not Mean to Insult GBC’s MD

From Colin Cross

Independent candidate for Lovelace (Ripley, Wisley and Ockham)

In response to: GBC’s MD Is Very Well Respected

I did not wish to criticise Clare Morris for defending her boss, both are excellent servants to this borough and outstanding at their respective jobs.

I have worked on committees with Clare over recent years and must say the borough is well served by her abilities in the financial field.

However, there is more to this than personal loyalties and professional respect; we have to look at the wider picture. When I said James Whiteman had “lost the plot” I had not meant that as an insult or slur but as an observation of the machinations in play at GBC and their fallout in terms of purdah and the premature vote on the Local Plan.

The likelihood of this affair now going the whole way to a judicial review is increasing by the day and the complications this will bring are manifold for the incoming administration. All this is far removed from the slinging of personal insults and the like.

My group, Residents for Guildford and Villages, are pledged to resolve these issues and this is a far cry from the obvious intentions of our opponents.
