From Bernard Parke

Hon Alderman and Former Mayor
The third year performance report was made available in March of this year, but perhaps with the elections it became overlooked by the public in general.
The main issues are as follows:
  • this was a £26 million project;
  • there is an annual subsidy of £328,000;
  • in return the sum of some £27,000 was received back by the borough;
  • the borough is responsible for the maintenance of the structure;
  • there were  a similar number of “dark days” [when the venue was not used] as in previous years totalling 116, almost a third of a year. This set against a target of 88 days.
Perhaps one should reflect does this project justify the demise of  the Civic Hall which was once to Guildford as a villager hall is to our outlying districts?

    What has happened to the inquiry into the collapse of the door in February 2013?

    Also what about the inquest for the two men who were killed? It was opened and adjourned as I remember.

    I feel very sorry for their widows and families down in Cornwall having to endure these long delays.

    I am fairly certain that I have read, only recently, that the enquiry conducted by the Health and Safety Executive continues. One person has been arrested and granted bail. I will endeavour to confirm this. Ed
