Letter: Lib Dem Opposition to Labour’s Grey Belt is Ineffective

Guildford’s “grey belt” according to AECOM Study.

From: Angela Richardson

former Conservative MP for Guildford

In response to: Setting the Record Straight on the Green Belt Assessment

What a lot of hand wringing from the Lib Dem councillor representing toothless opposition. The Conservatives have pledged to completely abolish the grey belt definition entirely taking it out of the NPPF.

Only one short paragraph on what Guildford’s MP has done. Why? One debate and one EDM signed. Toothless.

I managed to persuade the Secretary of State, along with colleagues, to get the top down housing targets removed in the last Parliament because of the disproportionate impact on places like Guildford and our villages.

Lib Dems purport to be ‘local’ champions and decent campaigners. What has become of them now they have power? They sound like they have put it in the “too difficult” basket.

Surely protecting all of our green spaces from a marauding Labour government is worth fighting tooth and nail for?
