A significant milestone has been reached this week with public objections to Taylor Wimpey’s planning application to build 2,000 houses at Three Farms Meadows in Ockham (the former Wisely airfield) now topping over a thousand.

There are 1,119 objections and just 11 expressions of support [as at 11.15am, October 30] on Guildford Borough Council’s website.

Whatever your views on this development (and please don’t get me started!) these figures are surely unprecedented in Guildford’s planning history.

In the interests of local democracy, I hope many more residents will have their say by emailing planningenquiries@guildford.gov.uk, referring to planning application no. 22/P/01175.

Too many big planning applications are just nodded through on the advice of council officers anxious to please the big construction firms. Councillors must study the arguments more seriously and give fuller weight to local public wisdom.
