Letter: Museum Must Be Preserved Despite Economic Challenges

From: Mark Brett-Warburton

Conservative county councillor for Guildford South East

Guildford Museum provides an important link to the past to give a sense of place that will otherwise be lost as the town evolves.

We must do more to protect our built history. For instance, Castle Arch, which forms part of the museum, still forms an integral part of the Guildford urban fabric. If we do not make an effort to protect it then one day it could easily be hit by a large lorry trying to navigate Castle Hill and an irreplaceable part of Guildford’s 800-year-old history will be lost.

Whilst I understand the economic challenges ahead, we carry a responsibility to protect our past as well as looking towards the future.

Blimey. There must be an election coming on…
