I am writing to express my deep shock and sadness concerning the destruction of the beautiful bluebell woods in Bummoor Copse, Compton that I have enjoyed walking through at bluebell time over the last 25 years.

I was aware tree felling was ongoing in April this year but nothing prepared me for the scene of complete destruction I witnessed yesterday on a walk through the woods. Surely there can be no excuse for the damage wreaked on such a scale in what was such beautiful and natural wood, which I also understand is a Site of National Conservation Interest by Surrey County Council and Surrey Wildlife Trust.

The damage is sadly done but I have written to the Loseley Estate asking that they at least commit to restoring the woodland as quickly and sensitively as possible so that future generations might enjoy the beauty as we did until such destruction was meted out?

I trust that the estate will engage with local residents and wildlife groups and other bodies to achieve this.
