Letter: Now It Is My Turn to Urge Faster Progress

Published on: 11 Oct, 2020

From: Paul Spooner

In response to: Guildford Council to Call on Experts to Develop Town Centre Masterplan (July 2019)

The previous Conservative-led administration was pushed by the then leaders of the Guildford Vision Group and the Guildford Society, John Rigg and Julian Lyon, on a very regular basis, for not moving fast enough on Guildford regeneration, despite engaging Allies & Morrison to produce a strong, and widely accepted as realistic, masterplan.

I look forward to those that made the most noise and now in control of the Guildford Borough Council administration delivering on their promise to masterplan and regenerate.

I am confident that the Conservatives would have been much further ahead by now. My words in this article from 15 months ago say it all. Come on Cllr Rigg, please get a move on and let’s see what we all agree Guildford deserves, a deliverable plan without height as repeatedly stated by R4GV and spades in the ground.

Now it is my turn to question the pace.

I too am sure the Conservatives would be further ahead. The question is where would their “ahead” be and why would anybody else want to be there?

Cllr John Rigg and the Guildford Vision Group have integrity.

The hypocrisy is staggering and such a short memory. The Conservatives and Cllr Spooner really let us down, hence their poor results in the last local election.

“Poor results”? More like well deserved annihilation.
