Letter: Park & Ride Bus Routes Could Be Improved

Published on: 22 Mar, 2022
Updated on: 22 Mar, 2022

From: Ramsey Nagaty

GGG borough councillor for Shalford

In response to: Why Not Use Park & Ride Services for Railway Commuters?

I raised the issue of the bus routes from Guildford’s Park & Ride car parks at the SCC/GBC joint committee.

My proposal was that P&R buses had a circuit including the town centre and the railway station rather than a straight back and forth.

This could link up the P&R sites as well. I also pressed for a new P&R site at Shalford on the old waste site and one to the north of Guildford.

What happened to the proposal? Was it properly tabled and voted upon by the committee?

Has SCC Transport therefore been directed to prepare as a properly worked through action plan with practicability and costings?

Will it include the proposal to service the railway station, as suggested by readers of The Guildford Dragon NEWS?

This works well in Winchester giving access to the hospital and station from both ends of the town without changing buses. The Guildford service to Onslow P&R should include a loop to the hospital bus stop to help less mobile visitors.

It would be so helpful to residents that solutions to any obstacles should be found. It might also increase revenue from the service while reducing pressure on the hospital car park.

Cllr Nagaty’s letter raises more questions than answers.

When did he make these suggestions and proposals?

Where is the site he suggests to the north of Guildford? Was it the green belt ‘Donkey Field’ at Perry Hill, Worplesdon that was muted and rejected some years ago?

Were his proposals considered viable, or were they rejected?
