Letter: Parking Penalty Notice Issued 20 Minutes Early

Published on: 17 Jul, 2021
Updated on: 18 Jul, 2021

From: Robert Good

On June 29 at 11.40am I was issued with a parking ticket (below) a full 20 minutes before my parking receipt (see right) expired at 12 noon.

I am fed up with law-abiding and innocent people having to go through the hassle and time-waste of dealing with such issues.

Also, I believe the notice printed on the back of the tickets to be unlawful.

On July 15 I wrote to Guildford Parking Services. I attach the penalty notice and a copy of my letter.

I will inform The Dragon of developments. Has anyone else suffered in the same way?

Editor’s note: Guildford Borough Council have been asked to respond.

Brilliant! I hope you succeed in your quite justifiable claim.

I note, that the facsimile of Mr Good’s somewhat unpleasant and indeed insulting letter to the parking department about this matter, no longer appears above. Sadly, without that information, his letter above no longer has the correct context.

Is it the case that, having read my response, published elsewhere in The Guildford Dragon NEWS letters column, pointing out that he appeared to have been parked in a residents-only bay, where a pay and display ticket was not valid, Mr Good has realised that he may have been a trifle ‘premature’ and that the parking ticket was perhaps, correctly issued?

If so, will a public apology to the parking warden concerned and the parking department’s managers be forthcoming?

I look forward to hearing from the author of the “developments” in this matter, as promised.

Editor’s response: In light of the additional information provided and while waiting for a response from GBC (which does not appear to be materialising), it was considered fair to remove the copy of the letter pending any further outcome.

So, seven weeks after the parking ticket was issued and a month since Mr Good’s letter to The Guildford Dragon NEWS, we still await an update on “developments” from him.

Was it in fact the case that the ticket was correctly issued, as he was parked in a residents-only bay for which the pay and display ticket he purchased was not valid? If so, has Mr Good apologised for his insulting comments in his letter to the parking department and the parking warden concerned?
