In response to: Big Supermarkets Fail Guildford’s Peat-Free Compost Test

It is good to see there’s been a positive response from Sainsbury’s and Tesco regarding the supply of peat-free compost. I just hope they follow that through into action.

Earlier this spring, I searched for compost that contained no peat and found it challenging, to say the least. I spoke to someone at the Sutton Green Garden Centre, who had none available at the time; they explained it was not for want of trying to get hold of it.

So it looks like pressure needs to be put on suppliers and the big companies that sell compost to garden centres. There is clearly a demand for it. Many people are now waking up to the fact that we need to preserve peat bogs and use alternative peatless composts.
