In response to: Beware of Guildford’s ‘Nottingham Knockers’

I’ve also experienced the “Nottingham Knockers” and it was very unpleasant.

The scam is that these thugs are dropped off in a given location by a van and picked up later in the evening after they have knocked on doors to charm, con or threaten money from householders.

I was threatened with a beating in the middle of the street when I told the oik I didn’t buy from sports bags shoved under my nose by aggressive peddlers. I got the full sob story about how he was in the army and how the army had sent him to sell £50 squeegees to rehabilitate himself after getting into a fight. All complete lies.

A horrible experience, not least for my elderly neighbour who was also the recipient of this particular sales pitch, and they get reported to the police every time they turn up.

I urge everyone to do the same.
