Letter: ‘SCC Does Not Support’ Headline Misleading

Published on: 5 Mar, 2019

From Paul Spooner

leader of Guildford Borough Council

In response to: Deputy Leader Admits SCC Does Not Support Wisley Garden Village Proposal

The headline is misleading.

I believe that Cllr Colin Kemp was clarifying that SCC is not in a position to support (or not support) an application but supports the proposal for funding without giving implicit support for any particular planning application.

I believe both Cllr Kemp and Cllr Spooner are misleading the community. Surrey County Council wrote a letter supporting a bid for funding of a housing estate on the former airfield but does not support the actual building of homes at this site. Meanwhile GBC having refused an application to build homes on this site are making an application for funds to help plan the building of a village on the site. So neither supports building on this site and both do. Oh my head hurts!

Could the Dragon have icons for quick feedback as well as written responses? If so, please do include a ‘laugh out loud’ one!!

As Colin Kemp admits, the letter in question was ‘requested’ by Guildford Borough Council. As the letter clearly shows, its author was very much in favour of the Garden Village bid and listed various reasons why. Perhaps Cllr Spooner could have another go at clarifying what the letter was for?
