From Malcolm Fincham
The Dragon’s birdwatching diarist
Regarding: Birdwatcher’s Diary No.197
I wish to thank all my readers and those that have made comments on my recent reports. They are very encouraging, as well as interesting.
I would especially like to thank Katharine Sawyer for correcting me. I had foolishly gone along with the consensus of the people around me, at the time, that the little mammal spotted on the Isles of Scilly was a bank vole.
With hindsight, it did look too small to be one. It did pass my thoughts that it might be a field mouse as the nose didn’t look quite long enough to be a shrew, though the ears don’t seem prominent enough to be a field mouse?
So thanks to Katharine for the correction. I have now changed it to “lesser -white tooth shrew” but I would welcome any other verdicts on the subject of this cute little critter.
