It’s good to see the council offering to lease the Electric Theatre on terms which constitute a ‘relevant disposal’ under the Localism Act, so enabling there to be a six month moratorium to enable the community to put together a bid.
All that is needed is for an application to be made and the site registered by the council as an “Asset of Community Value”.
It’s surprising with all the angst expressed in The Dragon about the potential disposal of community assets that, with the conspicuous exception of Peaslake Village Stores, not one such asset has been registered.
Registration is something capable of being applied for by every parish council, neighbourhood forum, charity or community interest company and even 21 or more individuals.
With the legislation having been introduced by the present Tory Government we can be confident the council under its new Leader will want to embrace it unreservedly.

Good news.
I hope everyone interested will take the time to read the Beckwith Report (click here and search on “Beckwith Report”) into the future of the Electric, the Yvonne Arnaud and G Live. It makes interesting reading.
The Electric Theatre will be an item on the agenda of the Executive Committee meeting at Guildford Borough Council at 7pm, Tuesday Nov 24, at Millmead.
