DNA Test Breakthrough Led Police To Solve £35,000 Bramley Burglary

Eris Tivari – jailed for three years

A family returned to their home in Bramley to find it ransacked and more than £35,000 worth of jewellery stolen. But the thief left something behind that eventually led to his downfall – a small quantity of blood.

Kingston Crown Court heard that the burglar stole watches, rings, and war medals, some of which were of great sentimental value.

During the burglary, which happened in February 2024, he also stole a pillowcase from one of the bedrooms to transport the jewellery.  At some point he managed to cut himself and blood was left smeared on both a wardrobe door and a pillowcase in the house.

Unfortunately it did not match anyone in the database when forensically tested.

Just a few weeks later this mystery DNA was linked to a second burglary in Ewshot in Hampshire, but the suspect’s identity remained unknown.

Seven months later a man was arrested by the Metropolitan Police for immigration offences following a vehicle stop.

He gave false details, but DNA and fingerprint evidence  linked the man to both the burglary in Bramley and the one in Ewshot.

The man, Eris Tivari, was listed as wanted, and in December 2024 he was stopped for speeding and arrested for burglary. Following a joint investigation between the Met and Hampshire Police, he subsequently pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary.

Tivari, aged 29, of no fixed abode, was jailed for three years when he appeared at Kingston Crown Court on July 15.
