Letter: There is a Three-fold Solution Better Than the “Y Option”

GGG borough councillor for Shalford

In response to: The ‘Y’ Option is Flawed

The Gyratory is not the problem and the proposed “Y Option” road system to replace it, while not realistically the solution, only amplifies the problem which is too much motor traffic, whether cars, vans lorries or buses.

The solution is three-fold. First, less building outside the town which only adds to traffic and more of the right type of homes in the town which would be less car-dependent.

Second, we also need a new Park & Ride before Shalford on the A281.

Third,  a cut-through route (less expensive than a tunnel), for traffic going through the town north-south, or south-north.

The Portsmouth Road and Broadford bridge are too narrow and incapable of taking the level of traffic re-routeing would create.

Where is the commonsense?
