In response to Dragon Interview: Cllr Catherine Young On Decision To Delay Local Plan Review

Catherine Young in her interview with The Dragon touches on points strangely ignored by many who voted to shelve an urgent review of the dreaded 2019 Local Plan.

Councillors were threatened with a Standard Method housing number despite the final requirement under that arrangement even with a 5% uplift and additional housing for Woking’s unmet need is about 2,000 less than we are currently looking to provide under the 2019 local plan due to windfalls, Solum, etc.

If you add to that additional town centre homes envisaged in the town centre master plan of about 3,000 then really the threat of the Standard Method surely fades away.

Under the current local plan we were unable to allow an empty shop that had previously been a take away re-open as a take away. There are many reasons to review the Local Plan. Those who voted to maintain it should look long and hard in the mirror.
