Letter: Was Any Member of the GBC Executive at the Holy Trinity Selection?

Cllr Nils Christiansen

From Gordon Bridger

hon alderman and former Mayor of Guildford

In response to:The GBC Executive Has No Influence Over the Selection of Candidates

What I asked Cllr Spooner in my letter was whether Cllr Christiansen had upset members of the Executive.

Would Cllr Spooner please confirm that there was no member of the Executive who had a vote at the selection meeting last Friday?

What this has to do with the £8 million or more raised by a tax for SANGS on almost all new housing which could, in fact, raise as much as £60 million over the next Local Plan period beats me.

These funds are being raised to protect three bird species from human persecution mainly on Whitmoor Common. However, at the last count there were only six bird nests the and according to GBC staff this was because they were almost all wiped out in a cold spell some ten years ago.

True? Yes. But it’s a nice little earner so why not? The “why not” is because it needlessly pushes up house prices.

If any one wants the full story I can tell tell it. Councillors we were told it was an obligatory EU policy, which it was not.

There are far more worrying things now which merit concern than this tax on all new housing. It was the last thing on my mind but I thank Cllr Spooner for reminding me.
