Lord Adonis to Speak in Guildford on Brexit While Local Leavers Report on Their Westminster Demo

The subject of Brexit remains as divisive as ever, here in Guildford too.

As a Remainer talk by Lord Adonis is advertised by one group, another reports on their experience at the Leave demonstration at Westminster on Friday.

Christian Holliday a borough councillor, who has also been Guildford’s Leave organiser, wrote” “Friday (March 29) was supposed to be Brexit Day, the day we finally left the EU and celebrated the implementation of the biggest democratic decision in our history. Instead, we marked it as Brexit Betrayal Day.

“Nearly three years after voting to Leave we are now seriously contemplating taking part in European Elections. The reason? Our Remainer Parliament cannot bring itself to implement the result of the referendum that it itself authorised, by six to one, spectacularly failing to contemplate the very possibility of a Leave vote. That is simply not a good enough excuse. In this country we implement the results of public votes, regardless of the result.”

But on Tuesday evening ardent Remainer, Lord Adonis, is to give a talk at the Guildford Institute entitled, “Where we are, where to next?”

A local supporter wrote: “Lord Adonis is a Labour Peer and Vice Chair of the European Movement in the UK. In the aftermath of the People’s Vote march on Saturday (March 23), with a Revoke petition that continues to gather signatures, and intensifying debates and disarray in Parliament – this is an excellent opportunity to come and hear the latest from a senior representative in Westminster who is deeply involved in the Brexit debate. He will speak briefly, followed by Q&A.

Lord Adonis is said to have Tweeted that he intends to start the process of revoking Article 50.

Christian Holliday takes part in the Leave demonstration on Friday.

The event will take place in St. Nicolas’ refurbished Community Centre, from 7.30 to 9.00pm. Tickets are free but those wishing to attend need to register/order them at Eventbrite, using this link: https://bit.ly/2OwdnXK

Event organisers say, “There are 100 spaces and it promises to fill up quickly, so if you’d like to come, please register as soon as possible.”

Reporting on his Leave demo experience at Westminster, Christian Holliday said: “Whilst our Brexit celebrations are on hold, there was no doubting the enthusiasm of the crowds in Parliament Square to see a proper Brexit.

“The presence of supporters of the Popular Republic Union from France campaigning for a French Exit (Frexit) is a reminder that it is not just the British people who have had enough of the EU’s suffocating, centralising tendencies.

The Frexit contingent at Westminster.

“The European Elections promise to be very interesting, more so if we take part. If Parliament thinks we’ll give up and forget about the 2016 referendum win it is sorely mistaken.”

Luckily for Lord Adonis he is unelected and the millions of people who will be angered by any attempt to revoke Article 50 will be unable to remove him from his privileged position.

“Revoke petition that continues to gather signatures”. Those computers will run and run, voting early and voting often.

The groans at the prospect that this arch bore and anti-democratic fanatic is to continue his eccentric obsessions in Guildford must be heard as far away as Westminster. Has he ever won an election to anything?

Re the comment about EU elections, if we have to take part look for a clean sweep by either or both of the Brexit party or UKIP.

He should visit a leave constituency, not a push-over one. He is an unelected lord. Who cares what he has to say just another London-based Remainer talking nonsense.

Did Christian Holliday also attend the Tommy Robinson rally? Or witness the arrests? Not a lot of mention that the Peoples’ Vote march (23rd March) attracted over a million people who marched peacefully.

The purpose of that march was not to overturn the result but simply for a chance to have a confirmatory vote on whatever deal is finally agreed (this was also suggested by Jacob Rees-Mogg and Jeremy Hunt) rather than the blind and varied options offered at the time.

Anyone who still wants to Leave can indeed vote that way. I’d also like to hear Christian Holliday’s views on Vote Leave’s decision to drop their appeal against the findings and subsequent fine from the Electoral Commission over their illegal campaign spending in the referendum.
